VIDEO: AAA MIDGET BUFFALOES BOW OUT OF MAC'S TOURNAMENT

The Calgary Buffaloes didn't spend much time in the P.A. Mintos' zone during the 3rd period

The Calgary Buffaloes didn't spend much time in the P.A. Mintos' zone during the 3rd period because of penalty troubles

After getting off to a great start in the Mac’s AAA Midget Tournament the dreams of a repeat for the Calgary Buffaloes has come to an end. The Buffs came into Wednesday’s game against the Prince Albert Mintos needing at least a point to stay alive. Unfortunately for the Buffs the Mintos didn’t even allow them to get a sniff. Right from the get go the Mintos carried the play, doubling the defending champs in shots and jumping out to a 1-0 lead after the first. The Buffs still had a chance going into the second period thanks mainly to the play of goaltender Bryton Udy. In the second the Buffs seemed to match the play of the Mintos but surrendered two more goals. Continue Reading

AAA MIDGET BUFFS BLOW OUT PATS 8-1 IN MACS MIDGET TUNE-UP

Calgary Buffaloes unleash a shot on the Pats' goal en route to an 8-1 win Sunday afternoon

Calgary Buffaloes unleash a shot on the Pats' goal en route to an 8-1 win Sunday afternoon

In their last match of season play before the Macs midget tournament the Calgary Buffaloes may have played their most complete game of the year. The Buffs took advantage of a tired Knights of Columbus Pats team, beating them 8-1 Sunday afternoon at the Acadia Recreation Centre. The Pats were playing the second game in as many nights and it clearly showed. The Buffaloes got off to a quick start and didn’t let up all game.  Head coach James Poole feels that the Buffs played one of their best games of the year, with few mental errors, a problem that has plagued the team all year.   Poole added that although Sunday’s game was a great way for his team to gain momentum going into the Macs, they still have some areas they need to watch during the tournament. #22 Hayley Wickenheiser celebrates after wiring a hard slapshot over the shoulder of Buffaloe goalie Richie Hubbell

The streaking AAA Midget Calgary Buffaloes took a break from their demanding season schedule to battle the Women’s National Hockey Team Thursday night at Father David Bauer Arena. It was the second time the two teams have met this year, as the women defeated the Buffs 4-3 in overtime back in October. Last night the Buffaloes got their revenge by returning the favour and beating the women by that same 4-3 count. The Buffs jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and held on the rest of the way. But before the first period ended the women had scored twice to get back into the game, including a goal from women’s hockey legend Hayley Wickenheiser.  Continue Reading

AAA Midget Buffaloes put the biscuit in the basket against the Tanroc Bobcats Saturday night at the Acadia Recreation Centre

The Calgary AAA Midget Buffaloes showed plenty of signs that they’re on the right path Saturday night. The Buffs welcomed the Alberta Midget Hockey League’s best team, the Tanroc Bobcats who play out of Lloydminster, to town. The Bobcats came into the game sporting an undefeated 9-0-3 record, but saw themselves behind 2-0 at the halfway point of the game. The Buffs looked as if they were going to be the first team to hand the Bobcats a loss, but couldn’t hang on to the lead, surrendering three straight goals.  The Buffs tied the game at three but ultimately fell by a final count of 5-3. Fans at the Acadia Recreation enjoyed a fast-paced contest between the AAA Midget Calgary Buffaloes and Royals Wednesday evening

It was a former Calgary Royal who led the way for the AAA Midget Buffaloes Wednesday night at the Acadia Recreation Center. Brett Pinder scored twice and added an assist as the Buffaloes knocked off their cross town rival Royals 5-2 in a Remembrance Day battle. Pinder, who played up to bantam with the Royals, said that he always seems to find extra motivation when playing his former club. It was a physical battle with lots of intensity, something that these two teams are no strangers to when playing each other. Continue Reading

#18 Dylan Nowakowski scores one of his two goals on the night against the Winnipeg Thrashers

The Calgary Buffaloes finally brought their A-game to the Telus Cup and the victims were the Winnipeg Thrashers, 7-0 losers in a lopsided game that was never in doubt.  The Thrashers looked to make a game of it in the first period and were only down by a goal after the first intermission, but then the Buffaloes turned up the heat and scorched their opponenets with two more tallies in the second and four in the third.
