I hope you all had a happy, safe summer!
Some highlights for me: assisting with the Calgary Stampede (I am a member of the board of directors); participating in PNWER (the assoc of 10 western provinces & states); representing AB at the Annual Public Accounts Conference (I am the deputy chair); attending numerous community events; & meeting with many individuals & groups on all sorts of topics!
It will be an extremely busy fall; but if you can find the time to let me know how you think that we can work together to build an even better Alberta, I would love to hear from you! Continue Reading

Last week, an organization called Envision Edmonton submitted to Edmonton City Hall the signatures of almost 100,000 residents (over 10% of the City’s entire population). This massive petition binds Edmonton City Council to hold a referendum on whether or not to close the Edmonton City Centre Airport. Continue Reading

Last week a group of environmental extremists from San Francisco launched the latest drive-by smear job on our province. In a project that would earn my 6-year old son an F in science and an A+ in science fiction, the troubled minds at Corporate Ethics International (CEI) have launched a series of billboards and other advertisements urging Americans and Britons to boycott travel to Alberta. The reasoning, say these aspiring rocket scientists, is that Alberta’s ‘tarsands’ developments are destroying an area the size of Michigan. They go on to compare our Fort McMurray oilsands to that “other oil disaster” in the Gulf of Mexico. Continue Reading

Just over a week ago the G8 and G20 summits wrapped up in Ontario. Predictably, the mainstream media focused their attention on the meathead protesters rather than the actual progress made at the summits. Continue Reading

It is hard to believe that we are already saying goodbye to another school year and gearing up for summer holidays. This is always my favourite time of year because I get to spend the most time in my constituency with the residents of Calgary-Shaw and family. Continue Reading

My son recently returned home from school upset at the news that the library at Nose Creek Elementary was being altered into a multiuse classroom/library because of a shortage of classroom space. He’s a big reader you see. Although I assured him I was certain this did not mean the school would lose all its books, Anita and I were quite concerned. If they were repurposing libraries into full time classrooms, what would come next? Rows of desks in the hallways? Even more troubling is that I hear these kinds of stories from parents and teachers from almost every school in our community. Continue Reading
