Supporters of Seton as the site for the new SE recreation facility say the Trico Centre is an example for the committee overseeing the development process
Jack Redekop and Roger Crowe make no bones about where they think the new SE Calgary recreation complex should go. They belong to a committee promoting the deep south community of Seton as the location for the $70 million facility. But they are concerned there is pressure to split the funding and build two smaller centres, one in Quarry Park and one in Seton, which they say would make both operations inefficient and financially unsustainable. They won’t say exactly where the pressure for two centres is coming from, but Ald. Ric McIver’s name pops up occasionally and it appears they suspect the Ward 12 alderman may be fiddling with the selection process for his own political gain. Ald. McIver says he is not promoting two facilities, that all options are on the table, and that the final recommendation will come from the City Council-appointed SE Calgary Recreational Facility Committee (SECRS) chaired by lawyer Stephanie Campbell.
