CANDLE STARTS $650,000 HOME FIRE IN SW CALGARY

100 block of Canterville Road S.W. 

A fire that destroyed a home on March 2 was started by an unattended candle.  The damage to the home in the 100 block of Canterville Road S.W. has been estimated at approximately $650 000 in structure damages and $140 000 in loss of contents.  No one was home at the time of the fire, which has been deemed accidental.   Continue Reading

There’s a showdown coming between the City of Calgary and urban farmers after well-known activist Paul Hughes was charged recently under a bylaw prohibiting the keeping of livestock within city limits.  The ticket was issued for having six chickens in the backyard of his southwest home.  Hughes says he intends to challenge the ticket when it goes to court March 25. ARSON CHARGES LAID IN DEVESTATING CITADEL FIRE

The Calgary Police Service has charged a man in relation to a devastating fire that occurred in Citadel in December of 2009.  Russell Hugh McDougall, 33, has been charged with 16 counts of arson by negligence in connection with the fire that destroyed five homes in the northwest community.   Continue Reading
