Making a living as a professional musician in Calgary can be a tough gig. Ask Todd King. He moved from P.E.I two years ago and at first had to sell cars to make ends meet. Six months ago he formed a power trio called Stratabuse with locals Ben Kelsey and Brian McCullough. Regular gigs are finally becoming more frequent and the group is a staple on the Calgary jam scene, playing regularly at venues like The Rusty Cage Central on 37 Street SW. Continue Reading

Peter Noone and Herman's Hermits play to over-flow crowd at Deerfoot Inn and Casino
Classic rock shows are usually about the tunes. The musicians are a bit long in the tooth now and putting on a “show” isn’t as easy on the joints as it used to be. Not so with Peter Noone. The lead singer of Herman’s Hermits, the ‘60s British pop act, borrowed from old English musical hall to entertain the standing room only crowd at the Deerfoot Inn and Casino last night. Mr. Noone’s performance was a mixture of cover songs, hits from the Hermits’ reign at the top of the pop charts in the mid-60s and cheeky Benny Hill-style comedy. It’s not every singer who jokes about his mother’s boobs and elicits a roar from the crowd. Continue Reading
