10,000 PEOPLE ROCKED THE RIVER AT C.O.P.

By Lauren Babuik, reporter

Canada’s inaugural Rock the River Tour West took place at Canada Olympic Park on Saturday afternoon and evening. The one-day music event was organized by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association of Canada, a Christian evangelism and outreach organization. Rock the River is a Christian summer concert series aimed at youth, featuring rock and hip-hop acts combined with challenging messages from BGEA President Franklin Graham. Over 10,000 people were in attendance at the Calgary show. Continue Reading

THE ETHICS OF FEAR AND THE UNSEEN FORCE

THE ETHICS OF FEAR AND THE UNSEEN FORCE

Scared

By Erik Freiburger

“Violence and fear is at the core of everything in this world. If it was not true then the fact of ‘Fight or Flight’ in nature would not be valid.” These were the words of my friend as we dug deeper into a conversation about our fascinations around violence in society. An odd conversation to have while at work I will admit yet, when God provides the opportunities to explore truth I never seem to back away. It became an honest question which I continue to ponder long after our conversation ended. Is fear and violence the soul driving force behind any natural relationship? Continue Reading

PRINCIPLES FOR PROTEST

PRINCIPLES FOR PROTEST

By Erik Freiburger

Turning on the television just a few weeks ago during the G 20 Summit, I was surprised by the images of violence and rioting I saw in downtown Toronto. I suppose I never expected to see this in a Canadian city and thought the Conference would go by with little protest. This being said, I believe in the practice of free speech and feel it is important to exercise this right with the intent of reformation and communicating a public’s claim for justice and freedom. But, this claim and voice must be clear in its content and precise in its message; something which I believe violence, smashed windows, looting, and burning public service cars do not accomplish. THE WORD AND SOME WORDS AFTER THAT

THE WORD AND SOME WORDS AFTER THAT

By Erik Freiburger

My friend Aaron posted an entry titled The Word… and I responded with a comment which I must admit became a little longer then I had anticipated. Anyways I thought I would share it here too.

This is a very pertinent question for today Aaron. What makes God’s Word relevant to today? Perhaps even more telling, what makes God’s Word relevant to me? Continue Reading

FINDING HOPE IN THE MIDST OF CANCER

FINDING HOPE IN THE MIDST OF CANCER

By Rick Bayer

Does faith have an answer for cancer? A friend of mine had her foot amputated on Monday.  In May she had no idea she had cancer, today she’s an amputee.  When I saw her on Tuesday in the hospital, I wondered how her spirits would be.  Continue Reading

BREATHING IN A LIFE OF BEAUTY – THOUGHTS OF DOMINION

BREATHING IN A LIFE OF BEAUTY – THOUGHTS OF DOMINION

By Erik Freiburger

“God watched as though he were like a child full of joy as the sun rose over the horizon. And as he was engulfed by its beauty he cries out again and again each new morning, ‘Do it again!’” These were the words of my friend Steve several years ago that I recounted to my friend Kenny while describing the beauty of God’s creation on a drive to the Rocky Mountains last weekend. CANADA CAN LEAD IN JUSTICE FOR THE WORLD

CANADA CAN LEAD IN JUSTICE FOR THE WORLD

By Rick Bayer

A friend of mine beamed with pride as he showed off his seven day old baby boy to me in church last Sunday. Then he told me about the birth complications.  If Jake lived in Africa today, he’d no longer have a son or a wife.

The G20 Summit will be happening in three weeks time and Canada has an opportunity to be a world leader for justice. Back in January our Prime Minister announced that Canada wanted to be a leader for maternal and child health world-wide.  Hopefully this comes to pass.  Continue Reading

IN PURSUIT OF WIND: LET’S TAKE A DEEP BREATH!

IN PURSUIT OF WIND: LET’S TAKE A DEEP BREATH!

By Erik Freiburger

As a teenager I dreamed of being a pilot. For years I would stick my hand out the window of my parents moving car and day dream of being in a British Aerospace Sea Harrier with the wings carving through the air as my hand drifted this way and that through the wind. I was no Top Gun but I loved the sense of freedom and adventure it brought. There was nothing I couldn’t make that plane do high up in the sky. At least nothing my imagination couldn’t do. Continue Reading

MUSINGS FROM A NEWLYWED

Sleeping in on Saturdays, making meals together, plenty of arguments, managing bank accounts, choosing the right toothpaste… There are a lot that goes on in the first year of marriage. Continue Reading

GREECE AND PERSONAL IRRESPONSIBILITY

GREECE AND PERSONAL IRRESPONSIBILITY

By Rick Bayer

What do you do if you’re the parents of a 21 year old drug addict living at home?  Do you give him more money to buy illegal substances?  That’s what the IMF and the European Central Bank (ECB) are doing for Greece and other Club Med countries. Continue Reading
