Which province will snag 1st place?
The judges of The Salon Prize are excited to announce that the second annual art competition has commenced! The Kingston based art prize is now accepting art submissions for this year’s competition.
Since the creation of The Salon Prize in 2009, Cleah Bunting has endeavoured to give artists, both amateur and professional, the opportunity to showcase and sell their art. Last year’s response to this prize was remarkable, with works being submitted mainly from Kingston, Napanee, Newburgh, Gananoque and Toronto.
This competition is not limited to the local area. Last year second place was awarded to a talented artist in British Columbia for an oil painting submission. The judges were disappointed that they did not receive any submissions from the entire province of Alberta. “We are hoping that this year our competition reaches even further, and that we will receive submissions from every province and territory” says Bunting. “That’s all part of the excitement about this competition, to have entries from all over—it unites us as practising artists” says Bunting recently, adding that “The aim of this prize is to open doors for artists and their arts”
Many of the artists involved with the show went on to have solo shows, hold group expositions, and a few of the younger entrants entered Fine Arts University with more confidence in their skills and talents.
The Salon Prize is an open competition, meaning art submissions can take the form of paintings, drawings and sculptures of any genre (abstract, realism, impressions etc) or medium (oil, acrylics, watercolours, charcoal, pencil etc). The works can also be of any subject. For example: landscapes, still life’s, portraits, figurative are all acceptable. The art submitted must have been done in the previous 10 years, and must be created and submitted by someone 18 years or older.
“The artists who enter the competition, make the competition. I am very glad to be presenting both local and national talent” says Bunting.
Prizes:
1st place: $1000
2nd place: $500
3rd place: $100 Wallack’s gift card
The deadline for this year’s submissions is September 10, 2010.
