A Sensual Life is one lived fully aware of all your senses, including sex, but not exclusively. Some of the ideas may not “seem” very sensual because they aren’t sexual, but anytime you get in touch with yourself and what’s around you, you are being sensual.

So without any further ado or preaching, here are this month’s tips – with the theme of food.
1. Make dinner. Oh, come on, I already do that all the time! Hear me out – do it differently. Do everything from scratch. Groan, more work, I hear you saying. Trust me, this is for the experience. Enjoy the moments rather than worrying about the work. Have someone work with you and enjoy their company. Feel the textures. Smell the smells. Taste. Take your time. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, just enjoy the process.
2. Go to a Farmer’s Market. Go with a friend. Take your time. Stroll around. Talk to the vendors. Take advantage of all the samples. Revel in all the sights and sounds. Listen to the performers. Have a relaxing afternoon away. Pretend you’ve traveled to a new country and are taking in their local wares.
3. Try something new. Buy an exotic fruit, a new kind of cheese, something unusual you wouldn’t normally consider trying but have been curious about. Take a risk. Have a mini-adventure in the supermarket!
4. Play a guessing game. Get together with some friends or your family and play “what is this.” Cut up several different foods – fruit, veggies, cheese, olives, pickles – whatever you can think of. Take turns being blind folded and see who can identify the most items. Laugh, tease, play! The competition is the least important aspect. Enjoy each moment, each taste, each guffaw.

5. Take it to the bedroom. I didn’t say there would be nothing about sex! Strawberries, pineapple, chocolate sauce, whipping cream, ice. You may have done it before. You may have heard stories. It’s time to do it again, or finally. Food is a quick and simple way to spice things up (but please don’t use anything spicey, especially around the tender areas unless you want an embarressing trip to the ER). It’s fun, tastey and readily available. Put out a sheet or table cloth.
Feed each other. Take your time. Look deeply into your partners eyes as he bites the strawberry. Careful not to bite any fingers! If you do, it’s a funny story to laugh about later. Use the food as foreplay. It’s sensual. It’s interactive. Let juices dribble down your chin and onto other places to be licked later.
It’s very sexy to watch and be watched enjoying your food. Be present and abandon yourself to the experience.
Have fun playing with your food. I’ll see you next time!
We all live full lives. We are all pulling our hair out busy, aren’t we? Come on now, be honest, I saw that bald spot! It’s easy to blame it on outside forces. Kids, spouse, work, bills, housework, shopping. It never ends! Truth is, it doesn’t take much time to treat yourself. It can be something very simple. So Meow Mix, brought to you by The Bad Kitty, will give you five tips each edition on how to have a more sensual life. Christie Mawer is an Edmonton-based writer.
