If the City of Calgary was looking for a high-density residential development to illustrate the virtues of its Plan It philosophy, it need look no further than Statesman Corporation’s newly-opened Riverside Quays community in Inglewood. Located on a former industrial site in the historic neighborhood, Ald. Joe Ceci says the condominium complex is a great example of “brownfield development.” Ald. Ceci was on hand to cut the ribbon Monday evening as residents and dignitaries gathered to celebrate the launch of Phase 1 of the community.
Ald. Ceci is a big fan of re-using old, abandoned commercial sites to build modern, high-density communities. He says Riverside Quays shows how Calgary can revitalize its inner city neighborhoods.
When all phases of the project are completed, Riverside Quays will be comprised of approximately 700 condos. Located in the 1600 block of 17A Street S.E., residents are only minutes from their jobs in downtown office towers. To reduce traffic congestion during those busy commute hours, Statesman provides a shuttle bus to and from the downtown core. No more battling other drivers or paying hundreds of dollars each month for parking.
To encourage shopping at the shops and restaurants in increasingly trendy Inglewood, Riverside provides residents with a VIP card that offers significant discounts at local restaurants, bars and stores.
The complex is located only a short walk from the Bow River. Living close to a little slice of nature played an important role in his decision to live at Riverside, says resident Jay Kientopp. He likes to stay active and now is only moments away from a walk or bike ride on Calgary’s extensive bike pathway system.
Ald. Ceci also praised Statesman’s commitment to green building at Riverside. The condos were constructed using a variety of green techniques and technologies, including energy efficient boilers, rain water retention and storage for irrigating the landscaping, environmentally friendly concrete, no volatile organic compounds paints and finishes, and energy efficient lighting ventilation systems.
