coworkYCC is the first business of its kind in Calgary, a place to share, collaborate, and meet with like-minded individuals by renting…desk space? coworkYCC is an affordable home for Calgary’s creative community and a place to make the world of freelancing better, stronger, smarter and “a little cooler too,” says Nik Thierry, one of the three creative minds behind the business.
“There’s lots of office space in Calgary but I couldn’t find any desk space” explained Mr. Thierry.
Most of the clients so far are “creative-based designers and programmers” but the space isn’t just for those who think outside of the box. A few realtors also utilize the services.
The space offers each individual their own desk space, chair, black and white printer, mailbox, and high-speed internet. cowork YCC even has a shower for those who work long hours. Mr. Thierry says the space is a great place to invite clients for meetings instead of a noisy coffee shop or a messy home office.
The company opened its doors in early November and officially launched Thursday. cowork YYC is located in the Ramsay Design Centre at 150 – 1900, 11 Street S.E. Mr. Thierry says there is still space available and interested parties can contact the company at 403-452-7938 or on the web at www.coworkyyc.com.
The men behind the company are as unique in their skills and background as the people who are seeking their services.
Mr. Thierry graduated from Portsmouth University, England, in Art, Media and Design, specializing in web and graphic design. He arrived in Canada March 2009 and continues to work as a freelancer for a group of clients from the UK.
Jeffrey Gibson is an award-winning freelance graphic designer recognized by the Art Directors Club of Canada, Applied Arts magazine and the Anvil Awards. After graduating with a degree in visual communications from the Alberta College of Art and Design (Calgary’s ACAD), he began his career working as a graphic designer and art director for a fashion-marketing-PR firm in the UK.
Quinton is a practicing Professional Geologist. He has worked as a petroleum geologist for over 10 years and currently holds the position of vice-president geosciences for a junior oil and gas firm in Calgary. He was selected as one of Oilweek’s Rising Stars of 2008 for his business conduct and work in the community. As President, Quinton will advise coworkYYC on matters of business, finance and marketing and remain employed full-time in the oil and gas sector.
