The Calgary Buffaloes are starting to move in the right direction, and the results are starting to show. Sunday afternoon the buffaloes hosted the Sherwood Park J. Ennis Kings at the Acadia Recreation Centre. The Kings were playing the latter half of a two game Calgary road trip. The Kings battled the northwest Flames to a 4-4 tie the night before. The Buffaloes were hoping to jump on a tired team playing there second game in less than 24 hours, but it was the Kings who got out to the early lead.

The Buffaloes found themselves down 2-0 in the early going, but then cut the deficit in half before the end of the first period.  The second period was all Buffaloes as the boys in blue scored three times to grab a 4-2 lead heading into the final period. The Kings would pull within one late in the third but couldn’t find the equalizer. The game was another penalty filled affair as both team experienced a parade of players to the penalty box.

The Buffaloes had the rest of the weekend off and took the opportunity to have a team building weekend. The buffs headed out to Banff for a chance to relax with each other and build up relationships. Head coach James Poole says that although it was great for his team to have a fun weekend, the teams start on Sunday looked as if it was a result of the weekend away from the rink.

The Buffaloes will now have a chance to take part in a special game on Thursday night as they will get the opportunity to play the Canada National Women’s team.  The National squad is playing teams from the AMHL as preparation for the 2010 winter Olympics in Vancouver. Poole says that the game will not only be a great experience but also a chance for his team to work on a few skills they don’t get to while playing other teams in their league.
