Immigration is often a touchy topic in Calgary, especially when it comes to high-profile cases like Jackie Tranh, the alleged gangster who has successfully used Canada’s justice system to fight deportation orders. Around Calgary, Mr. Tranh has become a symbol for a broken Canadian immigration symbol. Not surprisingly, he figured prominently in the questions posed to Jason Kenney, federal immigration minister, during a recent town hall meeting. Mr.Kenney says changes are coming to the immigration and refugee system, perhaps not as quickly as his Calgary constituents would like, but he is committed to reforming the unwieldly process.
