Calgary moms are invited to participate in the 2009 Global Breastfeeding Challenge, taking place this Saturday at Eau Claire Market.  The Challenge is an event sponsored by the non-profit Quintessence Foundation in which breastfeeding mothers from locations all over the world gather and feed their children at a pre-determined “latch-on” time, in a move to raise awareness of the benefits of breastfeeding and to encourage support within the community. MAN WITH SEXUAL ASSAULT HISTORY RELEASED INTO CALGARY AREA

 Police are letting Calgarians know that a man with a history of violent crime is being released into the Calgary area following completion of a prison sentence.  Dean Robert Zimmerman, 44, is being released after spending just over three years in prison on convictions of sexual assault with a weapon and forcible confinement. His history includes violent and sexual assaults against adult women who were known to him. Continue Reading

Calgary Police are seeking public assistance in relation to a southeast stabbing that occurred this past weekend.  Police say a man was stabbed following an altercation which began inside a licensed establishment in the 1800 block of 35 St S.E.   According to the police, two groups of men were involved in a dispute, which resulted in five or six men chasing the victim northbound along 35 St. toward 17 Ave. S.E. IT'S COLD IN SASKATCHEWAN, TIME FOR POLITICS

The cold – and colds – have hit home, so excuse me if I’m looking at the world through blue-coloured glasses this week.   Furnaces kicked into gear this week, a clear sign that the beautiful weather of September has come to its end and we’re entering the time of coats, gloves and, before long, snow. The good news offsetting this reality is that SaskEnergy, our natural gas supplier, is going to reduce its rates slightly beginning in November. Continue Reading
