To keep your yard in compliance with the Community Standards Bylaw, grass must be less than six inches tall.  As a resident, you are also responsible for caring for areas adjacent to your property including back alleys.  Weeds need to be kept under control and owners must ensure the weeds do not spread to other properties.

Keeping your lawn mowed and weed-free is about more than just keeping up the appearance of our communities.  Weeds and long grass can create safety and fire hazards.  They can lead to mosquito and rodent problems.

Coyotes are also drawn to these yards since mice and other rodents are a staple of their diet and they also feel safe when hidden from view in the grass.

Mowing regularly and dealing with weeds early helps to reduce your dependence on pesticides and keeps both your lawn and your community healthy.   If you feel that you need to use pesticides, ensure that you spray weeds individually rather than spraying the entire lawn.

These methods help ensure a weed-free lawn without overusing chemicals.
