Calgary Police have charged a man believed to be part of the gangland murder of three people in the Bolsa Restaurant January 1.  Two of the victims are alleged to have gang ties, but the third, Keni Su’a, was an innocent victim who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Real Christian Honorio, 25, of Calgary, was arrested in northwest Calgary on Monday without incident and charged early this morning.  He has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder.

Mr. Honorio’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 11 in Calgary Provincial Court.

Late in the afternoon on New Year’s Day Keni Su’a, 43, decided to stop at the Bolsa, located in a strip mall at Macleod Trail and 94 Ave. S.E., for a late lunch.  The Calgary contractor usually ate at another Vietnamese Restaurant, but it was closed for the holiday.

Sanjeev Mann, 22, a man police say is a known gangster, and Aaron Bendle, 21, an associate of Mr. Mann were sitting at a table when two gunmen burst into the restaurant and shot them dead.

Police believe Mr. Su’a fled to the parking lot, where he was stopped by a third gunmen.  Moments later the other two assassins burst from the restaurant and Mr. Su’a was shot, too.  Autopsies revealed all three died as a result of the shooting.

Mr. Su’a immigrated to Canada from Samoa with the Youth With A Mission Christian organization in the 1990s.  About five years ago he started a concrete business in Calgary with a partner.

When news of Mr. Su’a's murder spread to his homeland, many of his friends and relatives commented on SE Calgary News on his generous and gentle character.  While they mourned their relative and friend, the focus of their remarks was not on justice or revenge, but on peace and forgiveness even in the face of devestating loss.

Nephew Puipui Joshua Su’a of Somoa wrote, “Our family has been devastated with what happened to Uncle Keni, but as christians we choose to forgive those who shot uncle Keni. Uncle Keni was always loving, caring and hardworking, and we miss him greatly.

“On behalf of my two brothers (Tavita Su’a & Mosie Su’a Jr.) and sister (Taimane Su’a) and my mum, Perosi Su’a, we would also like to thank uncle Keni’s friends all over the world, and the people of Canada (in particular those in Calgary) for your prayers, thoughts and support in every way…”

“I still cant get over about what happened to my samoan brother Keni Sua. I remembered the very first time i came to Canada from Samoa. I thought to myself how nice and peaceful canada (is), but i guess i was wrong,” wrote Manuosamoa.

The police continue to investigate and say further arrests are anticipated.  They are not releasing further details at this time.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Calgary Police Service at 403-266-1234, the Gang Help Line at 403-206-8191 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222 -8477.
