A SE Calgary man is thanking his lucky stars tonight after narrowly escaping death or serious injury after falling under the wheels of a southbound C-Train Friday night. Around 7 p.m. the C-Train was abruptly stopped at the Fish Creek station for no apparent reason.
SECN reporter Markham Hislop was aboard the C-Train. Mr. Hislop exited the train with the other passengers, only to discover that the reason the C-Train was stopped was that a man was wedged between the track and the wheel of the train.
Duty Inspector Trickett of the Calgary Police confirmed that a man was arrrested at the Fish Creek C-train station, but could not confirm the charges. A second man, believed to be the individual who may have pushed the victim off the C-Train platform, was also escorted from the scene by Calgary Police officers and appeared to be under arrest.
Upon existing the train, Mr. Hislop gathered with other passengers at the front of the train and witnessed several passengers trying to extract the man from beneath the C-Train wheel.
It took about five minutes, but the obviously enebriated individual was eventually extricated from beneath the wheel and brought up to the Fish Creek platform.
Mr. Hislop and other passengers heard the man say that a companion had pushed him onto the tracks. The companion appeared to be intoxicated, too.
A third party named Harry, who refused to provide his surname, claimed to be travelling with the victim and was not sure how he ended up beneath the C-Train wheels.
“He was very lucky he wasn’t cut in half,” said Harry. “I don’t know how he ended up on this side of the train.
“Somebody said that he was pushed. But I have no words to say…when he fell down, he was laying underneath the tracks..I jumped off…he’s an acquaintance…
“He was standing on the edge (of the Fishcreek C-Train platform)…and the other guy goes, ‘He’s not there.’” Next thing I thing I know he’s underneath the train.”
The victim is believed to be unhurt. EMS personnel arrived at the scene, but did not appear to provide medical services to the victim. One of the men involved in extricating the victim from beneath the C-Train wheel was later overheard saying that the victim appeared to have only suffered a bruised rib cage.

Quite an adventure. Glad the victim seems to have lucked out. Hope when he sobers up he realizes how close he came to meeting the Grim Reaper.
I guess the friend who pushed him didn’t hear about the guy who died recently after a woman pushed him. I wonder if anything will be learned from this incident….probably not.
