Midget AAA Buffaloes celebrate goal against the Royals Thursday night
The CBHA major midget AAA Buffaloes lost 5-4 to the Calgary Royals Thursday before a packed house at the Stu Peppard Arena. A slow start put the Buffaloes in the hole three-zip in the first period. The Buffs roared back with two goals in each of the next two periods, but couldn’t pull ahead. Head Coach James Poole said his team was dominant in the third period, which bodes well for the next game, 7:15 p.m. Saturday at the Acadia Recreation Centre. Continue Reading

Calgary Hays MLA Art Johnson
Calgary Hays MLA Art Johnson last week introduced a bill that will see the Alberta government provide much greater oversight of municipal spending. If passed, the legislation would create the Office of the Municipal Auditor General. The City of Calgary would be required to allow the new provincial auditor to review its books and its spending habits.
The Calgary Chamber of Commerce originally developed the concept. “Our members rank prudent fiscal management, more effective spending and better priority setting by City Council as a top municipal priority,” says Geoff Pradella, Vice-President of Public & Government Affairs with the Calgary Chamber of Commerce. Premier Stelmach picked up on it and praised the concept in a media interview in December.
